Undergraduate Research Opportunity

Spring/Summer Fieldwork on Migratory Birds

Looking for undergraduates interested in volunteering or getting credit for assisting with research on natal dispersal and reproductive success of a number of migratory bird species.

Fieldwork will be conducted at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center near Laurel, MD starting in mid-April and continuing through July. Responsibilities will include: assisting with mist netting and banding birds, recording data on captured birds, locating and monitoring nests, habitat quality assessment, and conducting point counts to record all birds seen and heard within the study area.

Preference will be given to applicants who can commit to the entire period of this research period but anyone interested in helping and learning is welcome to apply. Some training will be provided but knowledge of bird identification and experience handling birds is desired.

Possibility exists to develop independent research projects based on student interests so undergraduates interested in volunteering, URAP, College Park Scholars and Honors Scholars are encouraged to apply.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in gaining research experience, needs credit or just wants to be a part of an exciting research project.

Please email Clark Rushing ([log in to unmask]) if you are interested or would like more information. Please contact by March 20, 2011.
