BIO Volunteer Program - closing April 30

Dear 2011 BIO Community Relations Committee,

The Call for BIO Volunteers will be closing at the end of next week - April 30, 2011. We currently have 97 volunteers and we need 150.

There are many benefits to volunteering including exposure, networking, complimentary registration and more. Please circulate the Volunteer info to the your contacts - thank you!

Volunteer Benefits

 1. For each day you volunteer during the 2011 convention, you will receive a complimentary day to attend the conference. We ask that all volunteers plan on volunteering for two days. For each two days volunteered, you will receive two complimentary days to attend the conference (the complimentary passes are non-transferable). Please note, in most instances you must volunteer for one day first, before you receive a free day at the conference.
 2. All volunteers will be given a special volunteer shirt to wear and keep following the 2011 convention.
 3. Each volunteer will have access to one of the following evening receptions which corresponds with your complimentary day(s):

Here are more details on how to apply----

My name is Angie Kocken and I manage the BIO International Convention volunteer program. As of today, we have received 97 applications from potential volunteers and we need at least 150 in order to have enough volunteers to staff all areas of the convention. We are extending the application deadline to April 30, 2011. I would appreciate your help in recruiting more volunteers for the convention. Below is a link along with more information on the program - please feel free to forward to your colleagues who are involved in the life sciences.

As an FYI, I will continue to accept applications beyond the April 1 deadline.

To submit an application to volunteer please visit the following link: http://convention.bio.org/Volunteers/

The deadline to register is April 1, 2011.

Please note the following: If you are a returning volunteer, please list a BIO staff member (preferably a former onsite supervisor) as your primary reference. Students should list their academic advisor or professor as their secondary reference. (See #2 and #3 below.)
Volunteer Requirements

 1. All volunteers will go through a screening process. In this process your credentials will be verified, including possible contact with your employer/reference.
 2. Volunteers should use a member of a 2011 host committee member, BIO staff member or a BIO member company as a reference. (If these do not apply, a corporate reference may be used).
 3. Students must be at the College Level with a demonstrated interest in life sciences and must provide two references. (An academic reference, i.e. a professor or advisor, in addition to the committee member or BIO Staff member).
 4. All volunteers must be at least 21 years of age to participate in the program. There are no exceptions to this requirement.
 5. Preference will be given to Volunteers that work within the life science sector.
 6. All volunteers must attend one training session prior to their volunteer assignment. The date, time and location of the sessions will be announced at a later date. Please Note: Volunteer training is MANDATORY. You will not be allowed to participate in the program if you do not attend a training session. If you know you will not be able to attend a training session on the scheduled days, please email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
 7. Some Volunteer positions require 6:30 am start times.
 8. Some Volunteer position shifts are 10 hours in length.
 9. Some Volunteer positions require working on the weekend.
 10. Most Volunteer positions require long hours of standing.

Please email [log in to unmask]<blocked::blocked::mailto:[log in to unmask]> if you have any questions concerning the Volunteer Program.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Best regards,

Angie Kocken
