Summer Research Technician Position
University of Maryland - Department of Entomology
Dr. Paula Shrewsbury

Research details: This is an off-campus full-time position located at Raemelton Farm, a wholesale field tree and shrub nursery, located in Adamstown, MD.  The technician will report to Steve Black (owner) in collaboration with Dr. Paula Shrewsbury (Entomology).  The technician will assist with research projects in the area of biological control and ecologically based pest management, with the opportunity to learn plant production practices in a real-world nursery environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain research experience.  In addition, there is opportunity to develop this position into an internship for credits and/or an Entomology Honors project (see: http://entomology.umd.edu/academics/undergraduate/honorsprogram)

Required Skills:  Students with a strong interest, coursework, experience or career plans in biology, horticulture, ecology, agroecology, entomology, plant sciences or environmental sciences preferred.  Students with some insect or plant identification skills are encouraged.  Must be willing and able to work outdoors under varying environmental conditions and be able to perform physical work.  Must be reliable, responsible and have a valid driver’s license.

This position will run from May through August with possible part-time opportunities during the school year.  This job is not likely to be compatible with taking summer classes.

Salary: $8.00 per hour
