Beyond the Surface, Inc., serving the Metropolitan Washington, DC
area, is pleased to invite individuals to participate in the debut
mentoring program for 2012/2013. This mentoring program differs from
others in that we are not academically driven but focus on the overall
lifestyle. We hope to produce individuals who will be beneficial to
society by exposing youth to culture, guiding youth to make moral and
ethical decisions, and teaching youth to believe in themselves. In
order to accomplish this, we provide a platform that shapes
progressive living through engaging programs that are relevant to
youth.

Beyond the Surface is currently seeking volunteers interested in
becoming mentors in this year’s program.

Becoming a mentor is a great way to impact youth in your community.

Mentor programs offer many benefits:

· Mentoring has a positive impact on the participant’s
personal development.
· Mentors help improve a young person's self-esteem.
· Mentors help keep students in school.
· Mentors provide teens with a valuable place to spend free time.

Mentors for the 2012/2013 program are expected to provide mentees with
the following:

· Ideas and perspective of progressive living
· Practical knowledge and advice
· Coaching and counseling
· Information regarding career planning for mentees
· Encouragement and support
· A weekly commitment for 1-2 hours of contact with your
mentee from September 2012 to May 2013

Individuals interested in participating as volunteer mentors with the
Beyond the Surface Mentoring Program are invited to express their
interest by October 19, 2012. Please go to beyondthesurface.org for
more information. Mentor assignments will be dependent on the demand
and needs of the mentees in this year’s program. As such, all
individuals who express interest in being a mentor may not be matched
to a mentee.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best wishes,

Win Matsuda
