The Bureau of Land Management is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team to serve as a Natural Resources Specialist - Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in the Eastern Montana/Dakotas District, South Dakota Field Office, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.

DUTIES:

The incumbent serves as a Natural Resource Specialist responsible for providing professional resource management information analysis and serving as the technical specialist in the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) to support resource management planning efforts and serves as a member of an interdisciplinary planning team for resource planning, EA's, EIS's, and land management projects. At the full performance level, the incumbent  is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to, the following:
-Assisting with the management of the GIS program and resource information analysis work and serving as a technical expert on GIS applications and information support needs.
-Using professional biological sciences experience and education to analyze and interpret resource information results and makes recommendations on findings for use by interdisciplinary planning teams or individual resource professionals.
-Advising, interpreting, and implementing GIS policies, standards, and guidelines.
-Performing duties as a resource management information coordinator, which involves acquiring, coordinating, and maintaining resource management data, database integration, applications and software interfaces utilizing GIS to meet resource information management needs.
-Maintaining documentation on all phases of GIS including coding of natural resource information, various data capture methods, metadata, and GIS coverages.
-Training resource personnel on GIS application use, interface with other software systems, and data management policies, practices, and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position - OR - B. Combination of education and experience -- Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

POSITION INFORMATION:    This is a full-time position.  1 vacancy available.
SALARY RANGE:    $31,315.00 to $61,678.00 / Per Year
