The Maryland Neuroscience Society and graduate students from NACS have
teamed up to teach neuroscience to grade schools in the surrounding area.
As a member of MNS, you can volunteer to facilitate a learning experiment
with young students.  This will expose kids to the scientific method, as
well as teach them how the nervous system works.  This is a great
opportunity to take on a leadership role as well as give back to the
community.  The first school visit is to the Berwyn Heights Elementary
School 3rd graders.  It is this Friday, November 4th, from 1 to 4 PM.  Car
pooling will be provided.

 

The training session for this event is this Wednesday at 7 PM in 3207
art-soc.  You need to attend this session to be able to facilitate on
Friday.  

 

The training session will precede our usual general body meeting at 7:30 PM.
For this week's meeting, we will consider the challenging issue of free
will.  It seems intuitive to think we have free will, but how does modern
neuroscience fit in?  Here is a piece of background literature from Nature
that will be referred to during the discussion.
