Two full-time (40-hrs/wk) and 2 part-time (20-hrs/wk) undergraduate summer internships in Integrated Mosquito Management and Community Ecology are available in my lab for the 2011 summer. Candidates must be available from the end of classes in May until the start of classes in August. The opportunity of work may continue into the Fall 2011 semester. Interns who do an exceptional job in 2011 will likely be offered work again in 2012.

Interested students should contact Paul Leisnham ([log in to unmask]) and apply by sending a 2-page resume.

Application deadline: 31 March 2011 or until positions filled. Hourly rate is $10. Projects are funded by grants from USDA Integrated Pest Management Program and Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources, and directed by Dr. Leisnham (ENST) in collaboration with researchers at UMBC, the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, and the Parks and People Foundation.

Interns will work on three field projects:

(1) entomological and social surveys of households in Washington DC and Baltimore City;

(2) entomological surveys of tidal salt-marshes on the Eastern Shore;

(3) experiments involving natural water-holding containers (e.g., treeholes, rockpools) in the Potomac Basin region.

Ideal candidates should be very reliable, motivated, hard-working, and willing to sometimes spend long days in the field. Candidates surveying households must be comfortable greeting people and working within a team.
