Dear University of Maryland Students,

The Iota Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Student Government Association would like to present the Annual Black History Month Oratorical Contest and Banquet. Both organizations feel that there are not enough large scale programs to commemorate the significance of the month. Therefore, we will be hosting an oratorical contest for $1,000 in scholarship money.

The question is: "Why is civil disobedience important in today's age for the progression of humanity"

Contestants will need to answer this question in a 5-7 minute theatrical yet informative speech. members of both the SGA and the Iota Zeta chapter feel that as a whole, youth are no long advocates for what they believe. So we want this contest to speak to that issue. The winner will be awarded $1,000 at the final round, which will take place at our Black History Month "Culture of Excellence" Banquet Program on February 27, 2012 in Stamp's Grand Ballroom. Stay tuned for more information on that event.

First round cuts for the Oratorical Contest will take place on February 17. If you or a club member have an interest in participating in this scholarship contest, then please send Maurice Nick, the president of the Iota Zeta chapter an email at [log in to unmask] so he may give you a time to present your piece before the committee on February 15 or 16.e

We have a great event planned for you all, and it is my wish that you will be eager to participate.

To be clear the scholarship contest and this event is open to absolutely everyone!
