The School of Public Health has launched a special "public health grand rounds" lecture series this year, which brings visionary leaders in the field of public health to campus.

This Wednesday, February 15, we will host Dr. Georges C. Benjamin, the executive director of the American Public Health Association (APHA), the world's largest organization for public health professionals. Dr. Benjamin, who is from Gaithersburg, Md., was previously the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Since 2002, he has led APHA in its efforts to protect all Americans, their families and their communities from preventable, serious health threats and to assure that community-based health promotion and disease prevention activities and preventive health services are universally accessible in the United States. APHA builds a collective voice for public health, working to ensure access to health care, protect funding for core public health services and eliminate health disparities, among a myriad of other issues.
