Overview 
Residing at the Hershey Company's Technical Center, this position involves a unique opportunity to work within the growth vehicle of the biggest chocolate company in the US. The Product Development intern will work closely with seasoned professionals in guiding new product development though concept development, consumer testing, scale up and launch. The intern will rely on his/her knowledge gained in school, learn confectionery technologies, and gain a better understanding of both the US and global consumer products industry.   

Two positions are available. This internship is from May/ June through August/ September 2013. 

Responsibilities
-Assist food scientists in developing and testing new products including formulation and process development.
-Assist food scientists with lab, pilot plant and plant production runs
-Provide significant input and support to sensory evaluation of  products and conduct consumer testing jointly with marketing and sensory research
-Attend marketing and product meetings when needed and provide input on product development progress
-Research supporting evidence of specific ingredients with purported health benefits
-Produce reports and other written communications and give presentations based on analyses of testing.  

Qualifications 
Education
-Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Food Engineering
-Minimum of junior status as of May 2013
-Minimum GPA: 3.4 

Experience
-Experience/knowledge of food product development is a plus
-Prior internships with related experience are a plus 
-Knowledge/ skills/ abilitiesStrong communication skills, both verbal and written
-Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
-Strong project management skills
-Strong math skills (Algebra)
-Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Ability to operate lab and pilot plant equipment are a plus
