On September 11, 2011 the members of the greater University of Maryland community will gather in the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance to honor those individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Individuals will be remembered as students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and friends walk the recently installed labyrinth in the garden which is adjacent to the Memorial Chapel. Each person's journey around the labyrinth will be in honor of one individual. We are hoping to enlist the support of over 3000 volunteers so that each volunteer may walk in honor of one of the individuals lost on that day. All alumni, friends and family are invited to attend.

Volunteers are asked to sign up via the online registration form at: http://stampunion.umd.edu/sept11memorial/
to participate in this 24-hour Walk of Remembrance.

Individuals will be able to identify specific people they wish to walk for — or they will be assigned a person and provided a short biography of that individual. Individuals will be able to indicate the time of day they wish to walk and can indicate if they wish to walk as a part of a group.

Musical interludes, a candlelight overnight labyrinth and a beautiful garden as well as the warmth of community will support this important effort.
