Job Announcement: Naturalist Position at Wetlands Sanctuary

The Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary in Lothian, Maryland, has an opening for a part-time naturalist. The naturalist will teach, lead nature programs, supervise volunteers, assist with research projects, and interact with visitors in our Wetlands Center. The work schedule is Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays (32 hrs/week). Work is year-round. Qualifications
Applicants must have a BS or BA in biology, botany, zoology, natural resources, environmental science, wildlife management or a similar area. One to two years of science teaching or nature interpretation experience, as well as field research experience, are definite plusses. Ability to paddle a canoe and to work outside in hot, humid or cold weather. Must have a valid driver’s license. 

About the Sanctuary
The Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary is a 1,500 acre field station and environmental education center in southern Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The Sanctuary is operated by the county’s Department of Recreation and Parks and is part of the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The Patuxent River, a major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, flows through the Sanctuary. Over half of the sanctuary consists of freshwater tidal wetlands, one of the largest wetlands of this type on the East Coast. Thousands of school children, university students, and volunteers, along with many natural history societies, government resource agencies, and conservation organizations, visit the Sanctuary every year to learn about and study the natural world and to participate in citizen science projects.
