Dietary Supplement Ingredient Database, a NIH-funded research project in Beltsville, MD.

Description:
This project supports the Dietary Supplement Ingredient Database (DSID, //dsid.nih.usda.gov), a database for dietary supplement composition information, as it expands to include botanical dietary supplements.

The Research Manager will coordinate multiple elements of this research program including study design, coordination of laboratory analysis, data input, storage, retrieval and analysis. Specific responsibilities include leadership roles for many of these project areas:

1. Plan and coordinate identification and sampling of dietary supplement products
2. Plan and coordinate laboratory analysis of dietary supplements, including QC planning and assessment
3. Manage sample purchasing, processing and tracking and communication with laboratory contractors.
4.  Plan and coordinate statistical analysis of data and application of statistical findings for data publication, presentation, and release.
5. Prepare and present reports of project status and accomplishments and write reports and manuscripts.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry and experience with dietary supplements, botanical matrices and the analysis of ingredients in herbal/botanical products, especially flavonoids. A Ph.D. in chemistry, biology or a related science is preferred.  In addition, at least 1-3 years of related experience is required. Additional related experience, especially in research management, laboratory analysis and manuscript/technical writing is preferred. Statistical experience required. Excellent organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills required. Candidates must be able to manage a high volume of data, manipulate complex data sets, manage multiple priorities and resolve complex problems within deadlines.  Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and attention to detail are essential.  Database experience, especially Microsoft Access, and experience with the management of technical personnel are preferred.
