Subject: Technology and Water Resources - Mulitiple Positions (May 30
deadline)
Description:
A full-time post graduate OR part-time school year/full time summer
internship opportunity is available on the research and development team at
the Institute for Water Resources (IWR) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
(USACE) in Alexandria, Virginia. The selected individual will participate
in a number of projects focused on technology to improve the USACE’s water
resources management mission. This internship is focused on Civil Works, and
is not a military position.
The selected individual could conduct research on the following types of
projects depending on one’s skills and interests.
■Reviewing, creating, and/or designing surveys, models, or websites for
water resources planning (Economics, Recreation, Biological and
Environmental). This could include verifying mathematical formulas and
testing user accessibility.
■Design and creation of GIS applications for emergency management or
water
resources management on an ESRI platform
■Researching mobile app and social media technology for data collection,
emergency management, and water resources management
■Creating web-based desktop/mobile apps using data services to meet
agency
missions
■Teaching and presenting new ideas and knowledge to colleagues to improve
existing processes through technology
The Institute for Water Resources (IWR) was established to provide the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) with forward-looking research and analyses on
emerging national water resources issues. USACE and IWR, in partnership with
other organizations, make vital contributions to address the nation’s major
water resources challenges and assist agencies in implementing collaborative
approaches to water resources management. IWR is also a recognized UNESCO
International Centre for Integrated Water Resources Management. Additional
