Subject: Launch UMD at Maryland Day
Description:
Launch UMD is excited to announce that applications are currently being
accepted for a special round of crowdfunding projects!
Last year, 10 teams had the opportunity to pitch their projects on stage in
Hornbake Plaza on Maryland Day. The team that got the highest number of
donations that day was rewarded with an additional $1,500 in funds from the
University. Last year’s winner was UMD iGem, a student group from within
the Clark School that worked on a solution for saving the Chesapeake Bay’s
oysters.
This year, another group of teams will have the same opportunity, except this
year the stage is on McKeldin Mall. Launch UMD is looking for student,
faculty and/or staff-led projects that represent the best of UMD. Project
teams will be trained in the ins and outs of crowfunding and selected
projects will run for 30 days on UMD’s crowdfunding site,
www.launch.umd.edu
Over the last two years, nearly 70 groups have raised a total of nearly
$600,000 on Launch. Crowdfunding is an excellent way to gain publicity for
the exciting things that our campus community produces throughout the year.
The application can be found at www.go.umd.edu/launchapp and applications are
due by Friday, March 4th at 5pm.
Please forward this message widely to any groups that might be interested in
raising money and benefitting from the additional exposure that Maryland Day
will provide.
Thank you!
