Location:  Frederick, MD
Dates & Time:  June 15th-August 14th 2015, from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Paid:  Yes  (based on completed semester hours)
What:  Mentoring & teaching elementary, middle, and high school students in
STEM labs while networking with scientists and professionals from USAMRMC
laboratories. Additionally, college students will learn valuable and
marketable techniques in chemical, biological, and engineering fields.

The United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command places a great
emphasis on broadening students' interest in science, technology, engineering
and mathematics (STEM) to inspire them to consider careers in these fields.
One of the ways we hope to accomplish this is through our summer STEM program
called GEMS (Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science).
U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease (USAMRIID) Fort
Detrick Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Sciences (GEMS) near-peer
mentor is responsible for guiding elementary, middle, and high school student
interns through science and engineering experiments. The mentor will complete
training prior to the start of the program. The training session will teach
the mentor how to relate to students, present experiments, and practice the
planned curriculum.  College students are eligible to apply for a near-peer
mentor internship position that lasts from June 15th-August 14th.
