Subject: ost-Bachelor’s Research Associate in Mathematics & Engineering Oak
Ridge National Laboratory
Description:
The Reactor and Nuclear Systems Division at ORNL is searching for a qualified
Research Associate to conduct detailed numerical verification of the various
methods used to solve the Boltzmann transport equation. A detailed
convergence analysis on the radiation transport models employed in the RNSD
code Exnihilo is needed. The successful candidate will help build a library
of ‘real scenario’ problems, including reactor analysis, radiation
shielding, criticality safety and dosimetry, which can be used to analyze new
methods and verify existing methods.
Qualifications: Must have a B.S. degree in math, applied math, engineering or
equivalent. Candidate also must have basic computing skills on
Linux/POSIX-type systems. Programming skills in python are desired and C/C++
experience is a plus. A background in numerical analysis is advantageous, but
not required. Strong writing and presentation skills are also preferred.
Applicants cannot have received their most recent degree more than three
years before the date of application and must complete all degree
requirements before starting their appointment.
