POSITION DESCRIPTION

Hourly tutor position for Veterans STEM Assistance Program The Adele H. Stamp
Student Union--Center for Campus Life University of Maryland College Park
The Veterans STEM Assistance Program is designed to meet the specific
academic needs of our U.S. military and veteran students. We are hiring four
tutors with specializations in the STEM fields. We are looking for students
who are Veterans, active duty, or students interested in assisting with
Veterans’ readjustment to academic life.

Job Description:
• Hold 5 hours/week of one-on-one tutoring based off of a customized study
plan
o Complete weekly reports to document your accomplishments during office
hours
• Complete three hours of training in August from Learning Assistance
Service
• Complete a Got Your Six training in August from Veteran Student Life
• Attend the Veterans Orientation August 26th
• Assist with Lunch and Learn workshop series if you have available during
the approved hours
• Attend all scheduled meetings with team members and supervisors
• Respond fully to all emails from team members and supervisors within 48
hours, as well as to calls within 24 hours
• Each semester provide the Graduate Program Assistant with a weekly
schedule of when you are available for work. Inform supervisors at least 24
hours in advance if you are not able to keep your schedule
• Take weekly attendance for all tutoring sessions

Qualifications:
• Qualified applicants will have demonstrated capacity to productively
engage with peers in mentoring or advising
• Completion of a course in which tutoring is being done with an earned
grade of at least a “B”
• Recommendation from an instructor of each course you wish to tutor
• Overall GPA of 3.0
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to
people from varying educational, cultural, and social background

Compensation: Tutors will work 5 hours per week throughout the Fall and
Spring semesters, and receive an hourly wage of $15.00 per hour. All training
and mandatory meetings will be paid and must be attended.
