Subject: Software Engineer- Mission Data Lead (DTS) at NASA Goddard

Description:
The Mission Data Lead supports the JPSS Ground Project by monitoring the
performance of ground system science data processing applications to minimize
the impact of potential data loss and/or delay from any issues with that
processing. This monitoring includes analysis of science data delivered from
the S-NPP and JPPS satellites, determining which Earth Science products
should have been delivered, and which Earth Science products were delivered
to NOAA and other data consumers. Analysis includes the use of software tools
and may include modification of these tools to make the reports more
effective. Support of multiple regularly scheduled meetings to keep informed
of overall system status and upcoming events that may impact science data, to
follow through with resolution of issues or problems that are tracked via a
work request system. Assist in developing future capability of system
reports.

Candidate will use Software Development expertise to provide insight and
guidance on the development of the ground systems applications. Position will
require candidate to develop an understanding of the end user's requirements
- what are they expecting from the data acquired by the satellite and how do
they want it presented. Candidate will help solve challenges to the products
ranging from data latency to competing customer interests. Position will be
instrumental in developing solutions that all the program to exceed customer
expectations.

Basic Qualifications
Candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and at least 2
years of experience on applications used to acquire and analyze data from
satellite (or similar) systems. Candidate must demonstrate an ability to
develop software applications related to data analysis and presentation on a
Unix based system. Candidate will be required to show proficiency in Excel
and SQL (primarily to develop complex queries).

Other Qualifications
Preferred candidate will have experience with Perl and Java languages as well
as an understanding on systems & technologies managed/developed out of the
Goddard facility. Candidate should have an understanding of the networking
and data links required to get large amounts of data from space observation
systems.

Security Requirements
Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final
Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret
Clearance.
