Subject: Apply for the University Student Judiciary
Description:
The Office of Student Conduct and the Department of Resident Life are
soliciting applications for the University Student Judiciary. The USJ is
responsible for holding students accountable to the Code of Academic
Integrity and the Code of Student Conduct as well for promoting the values of
Integrity, Character, and Ethics.
We are seeking high character, motivated students to be a strong addition to
the USJ and one of its five branches (listed below). Applications are due by
11:59 pm on October 23rd. We need students of any class standing (including
graduate students) and in any major. We thrive on the diversity of our USJ,
as it helps to inform sound, deliberative decisions. The five branches of the
USJ are:
1. The Appellate Board: reviews appeals of lower boards and second
appeals from the Department of Transportation Services
2. The Community Advocates: represents and assists the complaining
party (faculty, police, staff, victims) in hearings
3. The Central Board: Hears cases regarding alleged violations of the
Code of Student Conduct
4. The Resident Board: Hears cases regarding alleged violations of the
Residence Hall Rules and the Code of Student Conduct in incidents occurring
in or around the residence halls
5. The Student Honor Council: Hears cases regarding alleged violations
of the Code of Academic Integrity
Students may find more information about the different branches and the
application on the Office of Student Conduct website: www.osc.umd.edu. Please
