Subject: Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity

Description:
To all Pre-Med/D.O/M.D students:
My name is Mingran, a current Junior studying Physiology and Neurobiology,
and like the rest of you, a student here at UMD.
I came across a fraternity called Phi Delta Epsilon a few weeks ago through
an old friend that I have over at our neighboring school, UMBC, and I
discovered that this fraternity is the oldest medical fraternity and one of
two medical fraternities remaining in the United States. While the original
chapter was founded in 1904 at Cornell University Medical College over 110
years ago, there are now hundreds of chapters across seven different
countries around the globe.
Phi Delta Epsilon, or PhiDE (prounounced fye-dee-ee), is a professional
medical fraternity, not pre-medicine, pre-dental, or pre-health. It works to
create physicians of integrity, and is based upon the values of philantropy,
deity, equity, and education. The fraternity stands to connect generations of
physicians with current medical students, residents, fellows, and
undergraduates to help them succeed in their careers in medicine.
When I first heard about PhiDE, I was baffled that this fraternity did not
already exist on our campus. I have been in contact with the CEO of the
fraternity as well as many other talented students from UMBC, and I am
thrilled to announce that the International Board of Phi Delta Epsilon has
approved me to start an interest group here at the University of Maryland,
College Park. Although the process has already begun to formally start a
chapter of PhiDE, there is still much work to be done before it can be
official here at UMD.
If you are interested in helping me bring Phi Delta Epsilon to the UMD,

Additionally, here are some additional facts and statistics to get you
excited:
-	Nearly 92% of members in pre-medical chapters of Phi Delta Epsilon become
accepted into medical school, with 100% in some chapters.
-	Membership is for life. Once you join, you become a part of a network both
as a medical student and a practicing physician.
-	If you join, you will be a part of the founding class here at UMD.
