Over 100 years ago, FLBS founder Dr. Morton J. Elrod wrote “People do not
ordinarily need a rest. What they need is a change.” As soon as coursework
begins at FLBS, students experience what Elrod had in mind and embrace a
rigorous adventure for mind and body under the “Big Sky” of Northwest
Montana. The immersion-based format means not having to shift gears from one
hour or day to another—start one class, finish it, then start the next.
Each course involves hands-on learning under the open sky on all day field
trips and overnight camping trips to relevant sites in the Flathead Basin
including Glacier National Park.
By attending the summer academic program, students can—accelerate their
coursework and gain field experience, count on personal interaction with
instructors, and pick up credits at a reasonable cost.
