Subject: Volunteer/Run for a River Blindness 5K!
Description: The International Eye Foundation (IEF) is hosting its first
annual family-friendly Awareness for Onchocerciasis (River Blindness) 5K
Run/Walk on April 22nd, 2018 in Washington, D.C! The Run/Walk will be hosted
along the Anacostia River to help raise awareness for River Blindness.
Onchocerciasis is an eye and skin disease that is caused by a parasitic worm
that is transmitted through the bites of black flies that breed in rivers and
streams. It is the second-most common cause of blindness due to infection.
IEF is one of the founding members of the global initiative to control
Onchocerciasis and pioneered the program in Cameroon. IEF also addresses
Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in collaboration with the WHO, Helen
Keller International, and other foundations dedicated to eliminating
blindness form these diseases. For more information about volunteering the 5K
