Subject: Interested in helping provide support and a community to adolescents
with Sickle Cell Disease? Join STRIVE! Application due Sunday, Aug 20

Description:
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) affects about 100,000 Americans, and 1 in 365
African Americans, shortens life expectancy significantly, and causes many
health complications and pain crises. STRIVE is a volunteer organization
working in association with Children’s National Medical Center. Teens
living with SCD are paired with college students for individualized support
and guidance through weekly phone calls and monthly group sessions and
hospital visits. Most Next Step youth living with sickle cell disease
participate for the duration of their high school career, building meaningful
and long-lasting relationships with their mentors. For any questions, please
feel free to email [log in to unmask] .
