Research Assistant/Technician, Human Sleep Laboratory
Job Description: This position is a great opportunity to gain experience
working in a world-renowned research institute. Our department conducts sleep
deprivation studies, drug studies, and brain imaging studies.
Post-baccalaureate students with experience in neuroscience, computer
science, psychology, and/or engineering are highly encouraged to apply. This
position entails working with research participants on sleep & performance
studies. The primary location is in Silver Spring, MD. Travel to different
sites may be requested. Reliable transportation is a MUST. BLS certification
is required (must be obtained prior/immediately after hiring).
Duties of the lab technician position, include, but are not limited to:
• Working shifts as a technician on the studies to include overnights
• Administration of cognitive computer, and paper & pencil tasks to
participants
• Application and maintenance of polysomnographic (PSG) electrodes and
equipment
• Application of electrocardiogram (EKG) electrodes and equipment
• Preparation of biological samples for processing (blood and urine)
• Screening potential participants for research studies
• Literature reviews
• Data entry
Opportunities:
• Prepare presentations for meetings
• Assist investigator with data analysis
• Assist with field research studies to include traveling to different
study sites to collect subject
• Professional development up to one conference per year (funding
dependent).
