Title: Photographer/Videographer

Workgroup: Communications & Marketing
General Purpose of Position: To capture the action and culture within
University Recreation and Wellness. This involves documentation of our
sports, fitness, adventure, aquatics, and community programs through event
and stock assignments. Aside from minimal office hour shifts, there is no set
schedule for photographing and taking video out on the field. Work is heavily
event based and photographers are contacted on an as-needed/on-call basis.
Responsibilities of the Position:
● Photography and Videography:
○ Take photos and videos of assigned events/projects in line with provided
specifications
■ Photograph and provide a specified number of finished photos per project
assignment by the deadline
■ Occasionally, when directly assigned, shoot video and B-roll for more
specialized media and video based projects
● Editing:
○ Edit, post-process, and share final files (within a 1 week deadline
post-event)
● Office Hours:
○ Work office hours to help support the implementation of storage
organization for the department’s photo library through a new software that
will soon be introduced. This time will also be used to perform any editing
or processing of photos from recent events.
● Training and Meetings:
○ Attend staff meetings and trainings as necessary
Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled as a student at University of Maryland, College
Park and be able to work flexible hours when required. The ideal candidate
will possess the following qualities:
● Understand the basic principles of photography and have experience
operating a DSLR camera
● Experience in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, or similar post-processing
software
● Dependable and punctual
● Self-motivated, able to work independently
● Sports and action photography experience (preferred)
● Videography and editing experience (preferred)
● Personal ownership of photography/video equipment (preferred)
Supervised by: Coordinator of Graphic Design & Creative Services
Starting Pay: $10.60/hour
Average Weekly Work Hours Required for this Position: 2 - 4 office hours per
week will be set based off of the individual’s schedule, but for working
out on the field as a photographer, it is a flexible schedule that varies by
project/event
