Subject: Invitation to apply to AI Research for IC Challenges internship
program

Description:
AI Research for Intelligence Community Challenges (AIRICC) Internship Program
A Summer School for IC-Hard Problems in AI
June 1 – August 7, 2020
College Park, Maryland

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) at the
University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking outstanding undergraduate
and graduate students interested in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine
learning to participate in the first annual Artificial Intelligence Research
for Intelligence Community Challenges (AIRICC) program. This exciting 10 week
paid program will pair students with mentors from UMD campus and the DOD/IC
community, and offer the potential opportunity to be considered for future
employment with the US government, to include possible sponsorship for a
security clearance.

Over the 10-week period, students will participate in lectures and regular
team development meetings in a shared work environment. Students will also
experience guest lectures from academia and government and participate in
field trips to exciting IC and DOD facilities. The summer program will
conclude with a workshop and demonstration event, briefing a panel of IC/DOD
experts and leadership.

Background:
The goal of AIRICC is to create and nurture a pipeline of student talent, at
the graduate and undergraduate level, who partner with members of the
Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community (IC) for an intensive
program that includes exploration, prototyping, and testing and evaluation of
artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for use in
mission-driven applications. Students will work in teams, with mentors from
academia and the intelligence community. Problems will be posed by IC
stakeholders, and supported with realistic data sets and other materials.

Remuneration:
Students will be paid $1000 per week for 10 weeks. Housing and/or food
allowances are not provided; the stipend is intended to cover local
accommodations.

Eligibility:
Students must be U.S. citizens and either graduate students or junior or
senior undergraduates. Students must be majoring in engineering, computer
science, mathematics, or another discipline with a significant focus on
artificial intelligence and machine learning. Students must be available full
time (week days only) for the duration of the program.

To Apply: (February 28, 2020 deadline)
Please assemble a package including a) your resume, b) a copy of your
transcripts, c) a letter describing your interest in the program and in a
possible career path in the intelligence community, and submit it to
