Subject: BMGT 289J: Exploring Leadership: Summer 2020 II

Description:
BMGT 289J: Exploring Leadership: Summer 2020: July 13-31, 2020. Delivered:
Asynchronously

Do you aspire to lead a large organization someday? Are you planning to be
an entrepreneur? Are you curious to know why some leaders and organizations
succeed while others fail? Do you wish to understand your own leadership
potential? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, BMGT 289J:
Exploring Leadership, will benefit you. Exploring Leadership is a business
course that provides insights and expertise needed to effectively lead
individuals and teams. It fulfills the I-Series and Scholarship in Practice
general education requirements. Individual coaching aimed at improving your
leadership potential will be provided.

BMGT289J invites you on a journey of personal exploration and development to
become a better leader. To achieve this goal, the course offers an extensive
examination of leadership in organizations and provides you with a set of
hands-on experiences that are designed to enhance your self-awareness and
capacity for effective leadership. Contrary to popular belief, people are not
born leaders; leadership skills can be learned. Everyone, at one time or
another, will have (or has had) the opportunity to be a leader. The course is
based on the belief that leadership opportunities and challenges present
themselves everyday. It is up to you to recognize and make the most of these
opportunities, and this class will teach you how to do so. The course will
strengthen your ability to supervise others, build teams, manage group
dynamics, motivate individuals, communicate effectively, and deal with
conflict.

The online material includes articles, cases, and simulations from Harvard
Business Publishing. Harvard Manage Mentor is an award winning and
nationally recognized on-demand learning resource that teaches critical
management skills. Students will learn about the best practices in management
and leadership through lessons, then develop and practice these skills
through realistic simulations. Manage Mentor has the highest quality
content—regularly updated topics, videos, tools and on-the-job
activities—that engage and motivate learners. Along with class credit,
students will also receive a Harvard ManageMentor® completion certificate.
The assessments and simulations used in this course place students right in
the mix of realistic business scenarios where application of the concepts and
frameworks is critical in effective decision making.

The grade is primarily based on a series of written reflections. No midterm
or final.
