HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I or II to support the Department of
Pathology located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD.
HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the
Department of Pathology.
The incumbent performs research and/or development in collaboration with
others for projects. Provides laboratory and technical support to senior
technical and professional staff. Solves problems of standard complexity in
carrying out research projects in a laboratory environment. Our lab uses
molecular biology, proteomics, cell biology and animal models to decipher
novel therapeutics including immunotherapy in the context of metastatic
breast cancer.
Responsibilities:
Research Assistant I:
1.Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and
organization of data. Makes detailed observations about experiments.
2.Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
3.Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
4.Performs data entry for research projects and maintains databases.
5.Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.
6.Provides basic data analysis and interpretation.
7.Performs other duties as assigned.
Research Assistant II:
1.Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other
procedures. Ensures the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous
materials.
2.Applies quality control measures as outlined/required by the protocol.
Provides basic data analysis.
3.Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and
organization of data, and maintaining databases. Makes detailed observations
on experiments.
4.Assists in the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations.
5.Follows instructions and standard operating procedures to perform expected
tasks. May provide basic instruction to other lab staff.
6. Performs mouse tumor experiments including tumor cell injection subq, IV,
IP, tumor measurements using caliper, euthanasia, tissue collection and
culture of mouse cells.
7.May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by
the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required
training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory
techniques; ability to follow general instructions; good communication and
analytical skills, Document experiments, ability to follow written and verbal
instructions, precision, ability to work weekends, take public transport.
Exposure to lab techniques such as qRT PCR, western blotting, molecular
biology techniques and cell culture techniques. Animal model experience.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required in a scientific discipline.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements:
Level I: 0-2 years of relevant work experience.
Level II: 3-5 years of relevant work experience required.
Work Environment: Set in a laboratory environment.
Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I
investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
