Subject: Gilman Scholarship - Study Abroad for Pell Grant Recipients

Description:
Are you a Pell Grant recipient and US Citizen planning to study abroad in
Summer 2019, Fall 2019, or for the 2019-2020 academic year? If so you may be
eligible to apply for the U.S. Department of State’s Gilman Scholarship.

The Gilman scholarship provides up to $5,000 to help pay for study abroad
programs. Last year thirty University of Maryland (UMD) students were awarded
Gilman Scholarships—worth a total of $107,550! Students who complete Gilman
applications with support from the National Scholarships Office also earn an
automatic $500 grant from the UMD Education Abroad Office just for completing
a Gilman application!

The application deadline is March 5, 2019.

To be eligible, you must be: a U.S. citizen, a Pell Grant recipient, a
freshman, sophomore, junior or senior (includes all majors), studying abroad
for at least 21 days

Please join us to hear from Returned Gilman Scholars about their experiences
abroad. Staff from the Office of Education Abroad and NSO will provide a
brief overview about studying abroad and the Gilman application process. Food
will be served!
