Subject: Research Assistant Opportunity (214718)

Description:
HJF is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Viral Sequencing Core
(VSC) and the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed
Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides
scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP.

The incumbent is responsible for performing experiments of a molecular
biological nature in support of research for the Viral Sequencing Core (VSC).
They will also, provide laboratory and technical support to senior technical
and professional staff.

Responsibilities:

Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization
of data. Makes detailed observations about experiments. Provides basic data
analysis and interpretation.
Assists with the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
Performs data entry for research projects and maintains project databases.
Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures.
Follow guidelines for the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous
materials.
Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of standard molecular
biology laboratory techniques; ability to comprehend the science behind
standard molecular biology laboratory techniques; ability to follow general
instructions; good communication and analytical skills.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.

Minimum Experience: 0 – 2 years of relevant experience.

Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various
chemicals and biological reagents. Candidate must be able to visually
distinguish all visible colors.

Work Environment: Laboratory environment.

Background: Must have lived in the US 3 out of the past 5 years; eligible to
pass a NACI background.
