Subject: INTRO TO MEDICAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT Summer Course

Description:
INTRO TO MEDICAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
ANTH 427/627 | Summer I, 2019

How are healthcare products developed today, and what is the role of the
social and behavioral sciences in this process? This course provides an
introduction to clinical research and the pathways through which medical
products are approved by
agencies such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We begin with
review of the historical development of modern clinical research. The course
provides a comprehensive overview of current regulatory requirements for
approval of drugs, biologics, and medical devices. The course also examines
regulatory science areas that are informed by the social and behavioral
sciences, such as real world evidence, patient engagement, and digital health
technologies. Working as part of a team, students will develop a product
suitable for a NGO, industry, or regulatory agency setting. Students with
diverse
academic backgrounds and interests related to medical product development
will find the course to be a relevant introduction to the field.
