Subject: Laboratory Technician II (214721) - APG

Description:
Join the HJF Team!

HJF is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to support Dr. Ander’s USU
Transforming Technology for the Warfighter (TTW) Award (APG-70-9762) within
the Department of Anatomy, Physiology & Genetics (APG) located at the
Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific,
technical and programmatic support services to APG.

Responsibilities are to perform laboratory procedures to assist supervisors
with experiments and to provide support in various areas as needed. Uses
judgement to define and resolve problems and make recommendations.

Responsibilities:

Assists with rat surgery, behavioral testing, functional analysis, euthanasia
and tissue dissection.
Maintains accurate records; tabulates and organizes data.
Uses computer for data analysis.
Prepares tissue for histology and immunohistochemistry which includes cutting
tissue on a cryostat and mounting tissue on slides.
Performs immunohistochemistry.
Assists with electrophysiological recordings and ultrasound experiments.
Assists with laser irradiation treatments.
Sees that equipment is in good working order or is repaired as needed and
supplies are reordered as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Technical knowledge of scientific
disciplines; knowledge of and skill in tissue culture technique and handling
biological hazards and their safe use and disposal.

Minimum Education:  Associates degree in related scientific field.

Minimum Experience:  2 to 4 years of relevant experience.

Physical Capabilities:  Handles a variety of chemicals; requires long periods
of standing.

Work Environment:  Laboratory environment.

Background: Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); eligibility to
obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
