Description: Given the integration of technology and big data with the
sciences and its impact on society, as well as the major pivot to remote and
simulated research caused by the pandemic, learning basic programming is
becoming a critical skill for students in the life sciences. BSCI238F is a
Fall 2021 student-taught course (STIC) for undergraduate life sciences
students with little-to-no programming experience who are looking to start
building a strong computational foundation starting with Python, while
exploring how programming is used in the broader context of the life
sciences, research, and healthcare. The course will also touch on ethical
coding, the issues around big data and data privacy, and how they overlap
with the responsibilities of a scientist. Students will also leave this
course with an understanding of how programming can fit into their career
