Subject: US Consumer Product Safety Commission Site Visit

Description:
Tuesday, December 10, 2019 (Reading Day)
US Consumer Product Safety Commission
5 Research Place, Rockville, MD 20850-3213

**Due to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission being a federal agency,
students must be a US Citizen for this site visit.**

CPSC scientists in the Directorate for Health Sciences assess the risk of
adverse health effects resulting from physical hazards or the presence of
hazardous substances in products under CPSC's jurisdiction. The Directorate
provides toxicological, pharmacological, physiological, and medical
evaluations of deaths, injuries, and illnesses in support of CPSC actions to
protect consumers. The Directorate provides scientific support to other
offices within the Commission and maintains contacts with other federal
agencies, industry, consumer groups, and agencies in other nations. Students
will meet with CPSC scientists who will share their career paths and may be
invited to shadow at other CPSC meetings. This shadow opportunity has the
option to tour the National Product Testing and Evaluation Center, where
product assessment are made. Students should have an interest in physiology,
pharmacology, toxicology, chemistry, or risk assessment with an eye toward
Federal government careers. On Tuesday December 10, 2019 (reading day),
students meet with scientific staff 9AM-12PM for an overview of the agency
and to share their career paths and advice. Bring a packed lunch. Optional
tour of the National Product Evaluation and Testing Laboratory 1PM-3PM.
