Subject: ON DISPLAY: Interactive Human Sculpture Court
Description:
As part of the International Workshop on the Neural and Social Bases of
Creative Movement, the dancer and choreographer Heidi Latsky will be mounting
her ON DISPLAY, a deconstructed art exhibit and commentary on the body as
spectacle and society's obsession with body image. The work turns a cast of
diverse and extreme bodies into a sculpture court where the performers are
the sculptures. Latsky will work with performers on campus, first to rehearse
the work and then mount it for approximately 90 minutes on McKeldin Mall West
(near the library).
ON DISPLAY has received global praise, and since 2015 has been part of the
UN's International Day of Persons with Disabilities. On that day, cities
worldwide present ON DISPLAY, using members of their local communities (the
work is not designed for professional dancers and relies on a "cast" of
people with a wide range of body types).
