Description:

Maternal Child Health Careers/Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement-Undergraduate Program (MCHC-RISE-UP) is a 9-week summer program designed for undergraduate juniors and seniors, and recent baccalaureate degree students (within 12 months of the MCHC-RISE-UP program orientation), with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.7 on a 4-point scale who are interested in learning more about public health and preventing health disparities. Grant funding for this program was awarded to Kennedy Krieger Institute by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) John R. Lewis Undergraduate Public Health Scholars Program. MCHC-RISE-UP is a national consortium of institutions including the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health, University of California – Davis, and University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine Center for Disabilities and Tribal Serving Institutions, and Aaniiih Nakoda College/Fort Belknap Community. MCHC-RISE-UP offers public health leadership learning experiences in clinical, research, and community engagement and advocacy areas.  All scholars interested in reducing health disparities and promoting social justice, especially scholars from underrepresented populations in the field of public health, are strongly encouraged to apply.

    • Program Application Deadline: Tuesday, January 31, 2023 (11:59 PM EST)
    • Program Dates: Summer Program – Monday, May 29, 2023 - Friday, July 28, 2023
    • A $3,500 stipend is provided for the 9-week summer program for students placed at Kennedy Krieger Institute, the University of South Dakota, and Aaniiih Nakoda College/Fort Belknap Community. A $3,000 stipend is provided for the 8-week summer program for students placed at the University of California-Davis. The UC Davis program begins on Monday, June 12th, 2023 and concludes on Friday, July 28th, 2023. Housing and round-trip travel is available for out-of-state participants.
