Dear Members,

I am conducting a bit of ad hoc market research. My company, OLI Systems, Inc. provides process design software primarily aimed at the oil and gas industry but suitable for other industries as well. I am not here to sell software!

As an informal poll, how often would you be off-line, that is using your computer with engineering software and not be connected to the internet?

We are changing how our software's intellectual property will be protected. We originally though that a check against a database on our web site would work then we realized that frequently a user may be assigned to remote places in the world.

So are you ever off-line and doing calculations with some sort of engineering program and if so, how long are you usually off-line?

To all those who read this and response, our thanks in advance
