For more than 100 years, Praxair has taken something as fundamental as air
and turned it into ways to make food taste better, plants operate more
cleanly and efficiently, breathing easier - in short, to make all our
lives better. A global leader in industrial gases and high-performance
coatings, Praxair has 26,000 employees and does business in more than 50
countries.

Job Description: Responsible for managing the Advanced Process Control &
optimization group in Global Hydrogen Business Unit. This position will
directly manage a group of 6 – 8 APC engineers and will report to the
Director of Process Automation within Global Hydrogen.

The position will have three primary areas of responsibilities as follows:

• Lead and Manage implementation of new MPC and RTO projects for Hydrogen/
Carbon Monoxide (HyCO) plants
• Manage the support of the MPC and RTOs in existing Praxair plants
• Technical direction to the Global Hydrogen Operations Center (GHOC):
GHOC purpose is to monitor the efficiency of all Hyco plants worldwide
using KPIs and identify productivity and cost saving opportunities. It
acts as a technical support center for Hyco plants and instrumental in
rolling out new initiatives in close coordination with R&D.
• Manage and maintain the operator training simulators and the process
models

The job requires applying chemical engineering, system optimization,
statistical and control principles in designing and implementing advanced
process control and optimization applications. Specifically, this will
entail conceptualizing, defining, designing, simulating, commissioning and
supporting technical control aspects of HyCO plant operations.
Candidate will pro-actively provide the direction and guidance to monitor
different HyCO plants to identify operational gaps and opportunities for
efficiency improvement. Areas of involvement will include process modeling
and dynamic analysis, state-of-the-art model predictive control, plant-
wide control, real time optimization and performance monitoring of plant
production efficiency.

This challenging position requires excellent communication skills to
maintain and develop relations with peer groups within Praxair such as
R&D, Operations, Engineering, Business development etc. This position will
be responsible for project design decisions and delivering results to meet

and:

 Leads and directs project execution and commissioning activities for
APC&O implementation at HyCO plants. Must have prior hands on experience
on implementing AspenTech DMC+ multivariable controller. Experience with
mathematical modeling and optimization software such as RTOpt, AMS
Optimizer Suite, CPLEX, GAMS is also preferred.

 Plant operating or new plant start-up experience - i.e. functional
process knowledge
 Familiarity with plant instrumentation and control systems, primary
control loop tuning, safety and work procedures in a plant environment and
Strong skills in plant data analysis using statistical methods
 Knowledge of steady-state and dynamic process analysis using off-line
process simulation tools and computer control optimization techniques
