FULL PROFESSOR (W3)
in Fluid Separation Processes
FACULTY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in
the area of Fluid Separation Processes. The starting date is as
soon as possible. The professorship is embedded into the
Aachener Verfahrenstechnik AVT, a cluster of Chemical Process
Engineering laboratories that focus their research and teaching on
processing of renewable feedstocks. AVT's research focuses on
using biogenic raw materials for energy and chemicals production
as well as on chemical product design. The research focus of the
successful candidate should be on low-energy separation
technologies, in particular those relevant to biorefineries (e.g.,
extraction, crystallization, adsorption). Within the new Research
Building "Next Generation Processes and Products, NGP²", the
candidate will interact in fundamental and industrially relevant
research with the other AVT laboratories. For that purpose, a
biorefinery pilot plant will be built for biomass processing,
conversion and separation. The candidate is expected to lead and
coordinate the design and operation of the biorefinery plant.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to
introductory classes of the Process Engineering curriculum in
Mechanical and Environmental Engineering in the B.Sc.
programmes, as well as to advanced classes in the M.Sc. in
Process Engineering.
A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral
lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research
achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or
university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside
academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to
teaching are essential. German is not necessary to begin but will
be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
Industrial experience is desired; a track record in operation of
mini-, demonstration-, pilot- or production-scale plants is required.
The application should include supporting documents regarding
success in teaching.
Please send a cover letter stating research aims and a CV to: An
den Dekan der Faculty of Mechanical Engineering der RWTH
Aachen, Prof. Dr.-Ing. R. Schmitt, 52056 Aachen, Germany. The
deadline for applications is 15.01.2013.
This position is also available as part-time employment per request.
