MIT is offering a short program on "Technology and Sustainability" on
July 10-12, 2017, in Cambridge, MA. The instructors are Bhavik Bakshi of
The Ohio State University, Tim Gutowski of MIT, and Dusan Sekulic of the
University of Kentucky, who are co-editors of, "Thermodynamics and the
Destruction of Resources" (http://www.cambridge.org/9780521884556).

The purpose of this class is to address the issues of sustainability and
to expand the engineering perspective of this problem. A resource
accounting perspective is developed with emphasis on four areas: 1)
energy resource analysis, 2) material resource analysis, 3) life cycle
assessment, and 4) design for sustainability. Examples are taken from
diverse areas with special attention to current and emerging chemical
and manufacturing processes, exergy analysis, and product and process
analysis and design.
