Dear Colleague,
You should have already received the announcement for ADCHEM 2009. The
deadline for draft paper submission (Dec. 15, 2008) is coming up, so you
should start writing your submission now!
ADCHEM is the prime IFAC Event on Control Methods for Chemical and
Biochemical Process Control. ADCHEM 2006 in Gramado was a big success,
and we anticipate an even stronger participation in the beautiful city
of Istanbul.
Currently, advanced chemical process control is gaining ground in the
chemical industry outside the petroleum industry quickly. In Germany,
for example, the universities cannot deliver enough highly qualified
engineers to meet the present demand of industry in this area. Advanced
methods are indeed used in industry - but not all of them. We would
therefore like to use ADCHEM 2009 to review the state of the application
of the presently available theories, methods and tools as well as to
discuss new theoretical developments and tools and needs for future
development.
In this spirit, we have invited as plenary speakers:
Stephen Boyd, Stanford University, USA *Real-time embedded convex
optimization*
Manabu Kano and Morimasa Ogawa, Kyoto University and Yamatake Inc.,
Japan, "State of the art in advanced chemical process control in Japan"
Mario Campos, Fabio Liporace, Marcos Gomes and Herbert Teixeira,
Petrobras, Brazil, "Challenges and problems with advanced control and
optimization technologies"
The layout of the program will be similar to previous ADCHEM editions:
3 plenaries and about 12 keynote papers (semi-plenaries), 3 or 4 tracks
of oral papers and poster sessions. We will make sure that the posters
get sufficient attention and exposure.
As we would like to see a significant industrial participation, we
particularly encourage you to consider joint publications of academic
and industrial researchers on cooperative projects.
The selection of keynote speakers is currently under way. You can
submit contributions to ADCHEM for review as keynote papers within the
regular submission process. Please mark the papers accordingly.
At ADCHEM 2009, there will be a young author award for the best paper
whose authors are all less than 35 years at the time of submission.
Please indicate upon submission whether you want to enter the paper in
this competition.
ADCHEM 2009 will be held on Koç University's campus which is located at
the meeting point of the Bosphorous with the Black Sea. It is close to
the city of Istanbul but at the same time far removed from the city's
distractions. Istanbul is Turkey*s financial and cultural center. With
its long history the city embraces a fascinating contrast of the past
and present, and offers many touristic attractions. It is the only
metropolis bridging two continents: Europe and Asia.
Social programs included in the registration fee are City Tour on
Sunday, July 12; Welcoming Reception; Banquet; and Boat Tour on
Bosphorous. Pre and post conference tours to popular sites outside
Istanbul are also available. More details are posted at
www.adchem09.ku.edu.tr.
We very much look forward to your contributions and to seeing you in
beautiful Istanbul.
