WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND MINERAL RESOURCES
DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Chemical Engineering in the College of Engineering
and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites
applications for a post-doctoral fellow to perform techno-economic
optimization of process and energy plants with integrated CO2 capture
and utilization processes. The successful candidate will collaborate
closely with researchers at the Department of Energy’s National Energy
Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Morgantown. This appointment will be
effective April 1, 2012.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a
related discipline when the appointment begins. In addition, the
successful candidate must possess some of the following qualifications:

§	Demonstrated sound knowledge of using commercial process
modeling software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Custom Modeler, gPROMS, etc.
and optimization software such as GAMS/BARON, modeFRONTIER, etc.
§	Understanding of the thermodynamics and kinetics of key unit
operations that are the building blocks of the supercritical pulverized
coal (SCPC) power plants and typical CO2 utilization processes for
producing value added products, such as chemicals.
§	Experience with using commercial process modeling software to
develop lumped-parameter and distributed-parameter models of
representative energy systems or energy conversion devices considering
the underlying physics.
§	Expertise in the development of linear and nonlinear integer
programming (MILP and MINLP) problems, especially for superstructure
optimization.
§	Understanding of the fundamentals of electrochemistry and the
development of electrochemical system models
§	Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as
demonstrated, for example, by publications in peer-reviewed journals and
presentations at technical meetings.
§	Ability to meet deadlines and prepare, present, and report
results effectively.
§	Ability to collaborate effectively with co-investigators from
WVU and NETL.

Applicants must include a curriculum vita and a statement of research
interests, unofficial copies of all university transcripts, as well as
names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of at least three
professional references. Applicants must provide evidence of
eligibility to work in the US and ability to obtain necessary security
clearances to work at NETL when the appointment begins.

Review of the applications will begin February 15, 2012, but
applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Women and
minorities are encouraged to apply. Please send application materials
