1.   BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking chemical or mechanical engineers to join the Drug Product Technology Group within the Oral Products Center of Emphasis (OPCoE) in Groton.  OPCoE, as part of Pfizer Global Research and Development Science and Technology, is responsible for the development of process technology for the production of solid oral drug products.  The candidate will a) develop, validate, and implement mathematical models to aid in the design, monitoring, control and optimization of pharmaceutical unit operations related to the drug product; b) create and implement strategic alliances with external collaborators to continue advancement of our process understanding in fundamental ways; c) work in the Solids Development Laboratory to gain applied understanding of the processes being modeled; d) participate in multi-disciplinary teams to transfer a newly developed technology to commercial manufacturing sites and e) apply cutting edge process systems engineering tools to solve the complex!
  problems that arise during drug product development.  The candidate may operate processing equipment, perform analytical testing on dosage forms, analyze data, troubleshoot complex manufacturing problems and propose hypotheses to solve issues.  Participates in project teams to optimize dosage forms and transfer commercial processes to manufacturing.  

 

The successful candidate will provide cutting-edge science that progresses our process understanding and overall efficiency by developing and implementing advanced modeling tools applied to projects.  Additional responsibilities include thorough scientific documentation, training and transferring process knowledge to project teams to ensure successful use and implementation of process model support.  

QUALIFICATIONS SOUGHT:

1.   EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: 

MINIMUM: MS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

DESIRABLE: PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutics or Pharmaceutical Engineering.

2.   WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

MINIMUM: 

MS or PhD with 2+ years process modeling and laboratory experience.  Solid knowledge of pharmaceutical dosage form processes for solid oral products.  Strong interest in applying mathematical models to manufacturing processes.

DESIRABLE: 

3+ years experience in numerical techniques and modeling pharmaceutically relevant systems.  Experience in leading scientific programs with external academic leaders in the field.  Experience in late-stage drug product manufacturing highly desirable.  

OTHER ATTRIBUTES DESIRABLE:

Strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to effectively direct academic projects driving to key deliverables, and a broad general knowledge of drug development and the pharmaceutical industry.   Strong problem solving skills.  Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.  Candidate should be able to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
