Postdoctoral Fellowship: Time-Series Bio-Image Analysis and
Mathematical Modeling

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Systems
Biology Group of the Hamilton Institute at the National University of
Ireland, Maynooth.  The vacancy is in the area of time-series
bio-image analysis and mathematical modeling, with particular emphasis
on developing mathematical models to extract quantitative, dynamic
information from bio-imaging modalities (e.g. confocal and
fluorescence microscopy).

The advertised position is part of a Higher Education Authority
investment for a National Biophotonics Imaging Platform (NBIP) for
Ireland. The mission of the NBIP is to provide an integrated national
infrastructure in research, education, technology development and
industry collaboration for biophotonics and imaging. The Systems
Biology Group at the Hamilton Institute will co-ordinate the Image to
Mathematical Model Transition (IMMT) facility of the NBIP. IMMT will:
a. Develop new algorithmic methods that perform the transition from
temporal/spatial images to a quantitative mathematical representation
of the corresponding dynamical variations (jointly with Royal College
of Surgeons in Ireland).
b. Distribute these algorithms throughout the platform by means of a
software simulation and modelling workbench hosted by the Boole Centre
for Research in Informatics (BCRI).

The candidate should hold a PhD in Engineering/Computer Science or a
related field, and have a sound scientific record in the area of
mathematical modeling and image analysis.  Some degree of familiarity
with modelling biological or medical processes would be an advantage.
Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills are
required. In addition, the candidate should be a team player who is
capable of working together with experimentalists and biologists.

A contract of 3 years duration will be offered to the successful
candidate with salary in the band 40,000 to 43,000 Euros per annum.
