Free Problem-Solving Workshops at Salt Lake City AIChE Meeting
Polymath Software is celebrating twenty years of providing Educational
Site Licenses to academic departments that are available through the
CACHE Corporation. Currently about 120 universities/departments use
these site licenses. The authors of Polymath are also receiving the
"Himmelblau Award" from the CAST Division of AIChE at the Salt Lake
City Annual Meeting "for the continued development and widespread
dissemination of POLYMATH for computer-based chemical engineering
education."
On the Sunday November 7th of the Salt Lake City Annual Meeting,
Polymath Software is providing several events that may be of interest to
you and/or your fellow faculty members and departmental
graduate students interested in teaching careers. All of the events
listed below (except AIChE Reception) will take place at the Delta
Room (just above the lobby) of the Peery Hotel on Sunday afternoon
November 7th. The Peery Hotel is located one block south of the
Convention Center at 110 West Broadway (300 South).
2-4 pm - Informal discussions with the Polymath Authors, Mordechai
Shacham of the Ben-Gurion University and Michael B. Cutlip of the
University of Connecticut. Details will be given regarding the new
Polymath 7 that is currently under development. Also the capabilities of
the Polymath Interface to the DIPPR Database will be discussed that
will bring thermophysical properties of ~ 2000 compounds directly into
Polymath, Excel and MATLAB problem solving. Bring along your
difficult problems, challenging questions and suggestions for needed
capabilities.
4-6 pm - Introductory Hands-On Overview Workshop.
Review/learn/use the capabilities of Polymath including export to Excel
and MATLAB. Bring your laptop (plug strips provided) or just observe.
You will be provided with a free Departmental Site License (through
September 2011) for the Educational Version of Polymath Software for
yourself and all the faculty, students and computer labs in your
academic department. A free DVD with all materials and access to a
special website will be provided to participants.
6:30-8 pm - Welcoming AIChE reception which goes from 6:30 - 8:00.
(Experience shows that one should arrive at 6:30 for the AIChE
Reception to assure a good selection of food items.)
8-10 pm - Introductory Hands-On Overview Workshop. This will be a
repeated offering of the 4-6 pm workshop.
Workshop participants are requested to send an e-mail to Mike Cutlip
at [log in to unmask] and indicate attendance at either the 4
pm or 8 pm workshop. Walk-up participation is also encouraged. Mike
can be contacted with any questions that you may have.
Please forward this to colleagues and graduate students who may be
interested. Thank you...
