Process Control Applications Engineer

ExxonMobil Research and Engineering (EMRE) is searching for chemical
engineering Ph.D. graduates in the area of advanced process control and
optimization for permanent hire. The target start date is mid-2010.
The work location is EMRE’s Central Engineering Office in Fairfax, VA.

Engineers in EMRE’s Advanced Control section contribute to the design,
implementation, and sustainment of the advanced automation systems at
ExxonMobil refineries and chemical plants that enable processes to run
safely, cleanly, and more profitably. Our engineers design innovative
solutions to complex control problems, develop new tools to help control
room operators and engineers better operate the manufacturing
facilities, and implement these solutions in practice. Our current
interests are in scalable model-based estimation, control, and
optimization technologies for increasingly autonomous manufacturing
systems. To stay current with new technologies, engineers in the
Advanced Control section keep in contact with academic researchers to
learn about their latest research developments.

In addition to a research background in advanced process control,
successful candidates will demonstrate solid technical capabilities,
innovative thinking, strong initiative, good communication skills,
openness to travel, and a commitment to safe work practices.

EMRE provides a positive environment for continuous learning and
employee development and well-being with a structured training program,
a commitment to employee mentoring, and an exceptional benefits program.

This search is open until 15 Jan 2010.
