Automation, Inc. (http://www.rockwellautomation.com), has a research
position available for an optimization and control scientist at its
Austin, Texas location. The successful candidate will join a dynamic
research team and use their skills to develop innovative solutions for
optimization and control applications in the various businesses supported
by Pavilion. The specific activities will focus on optimization-based
control and contribute to the development of algorithms and software for
fast real-time optimization and control applications for large-scale
nonlinear processes.
Required Skills:
--Background in control systems.
--Solid background in optimization algorithms (convex optimization,
interior point methods in particular). Of specific interest is the ability
to develop problem specific solvers that exploit problem structure to
achieve favorable computational properties.
--Experience with the implementation of numerical algorithms in
computational applications.
--Good programming background with languages such as C/C++ or Java.
--Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse technical
backgrounds and across technologies, disciplines and functions.
--Ability to effectively contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams.
Desired Skills:
--Familiarity with real-time execution environment and interface to
hardware.
--Creativity and motivation to find novel solutions to challenging
problems.
Education Requirements:
Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science specializing in one or
more of the following: Computational efficiency of optimization
algorithms, large-scale optimization, advanced control.
Additional Comments:
--Travel requirements are minimal.
--Compensation will be commensurate with the qualifications of the
applicant.
