We have an excellent career opportunity available for a Process Modeling 
and Optimization Specialist within the Research & Development organization 
located in Des Plaines, IL.  The Process Modeling and Optimization 
Specialists will develop reactor and process models, which are considered 
critical in the scale-up and commercialization of new UOP process 
technology and the improvement of the current technology portfolio. 
 
Position Accountabilities Include:
The candidate will develop reactor and process models, which are considered 
critical in scale-up and commercialization of new UOP process technology 
and the improvement of the current technology portfolio. 
The candidate will insure that models meet requirements of all uses: such 
as yield estimating, engineering design, process development and remote 
performance monitoring. 
The candidate will use his understanding of kinetics and reaction 
engineering to make innovative contributions to UOP’s technology 
development efforts. 
The candidate will determine and coordinate the required collection of lab, 
pilot plant or commercial data that is required for the modeling. 
The candidate will develop wrappers that allow the models to be 
incorporated into Aspen, Hysys, and Excel and other specialized 
applications. 
The candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and upgrading of 
existing models. 
Lead and participate in forums, seminars and engineering networks. 
Basic Candidate Qualifications:
A PhD in Chemical Engineering, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical 
Engineering together with a minimum of 3 years specialization in process 
design, process operations, modeling, optimization, separations or reaction 
engineering (including graduate studies). 
US work authorization.
Additional Candidate Qualifications:
Strong interest in R&D work. 
Sound understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals: kinetics, 
thermodynamics, and transport phenomena. 
Good mastery of numerical methods to solve ODEs, PDEs and perform 
optimization. 
Good statistics background with emphasis in non-linear experimental design 
and parameter estimation. 
Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics. 
Exposure to Refinery/Aromatics/Petrochemicals applications. 
Good computer skills: Should be comfortable with Windows and Unix 
platforms. Should be fluent with Fortran or C (C++ or Visual Basic a 
definite plus) 
Demonstrated signs of innovation and creativity. 
Good interpersonal skills, good written and presentation skills and ability 
to sell ideas to other disciplines. 
Most importantly, should have demonstrated the ability to develop 
reactor/kinetic models which show balance in technical depth with practical 
implementation issues. 
Ability to work independently. 
Willingness to travel (less than 10% of time).
