Post-doctoral scholar in gas separations process design and optimization

Description:
A post-doc is sought with experience in gas separations systems analysis. A model of an oxygen separation sorbent system will be developed. This study will result in a system design and economic evaluation for the oxygen separation sorbents. Other process design and optimization models may be developed for various carbon dioxide separation systems as well. Experience using Aspen or similar systems analysis software packages is preferred.

Our research group studies gas separation for energy applications with an emphasis on supported ionic liquid and mixed matrix membranes. The incumbent will become part of a dynamic research group addressing all aspects of separation materials development including molecular modeling, synthesis and characterization of new substances, fabrication of those substances into various membrane and sorbent configurations, performance testing, and systems analysis. The position will be located at the National Energy Technology Laboratory, either in Morgantown, WV or Pittsburgh, PA, a center of excellence in carbon dioxide capture and sequestration research.

Minimum qualifications: A Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field with experience in process design and optimization

Preferred qualifications: Experience with Aspen or similar systems analysis software; previous modeling of gas separation systems; previous modeling of power generation systems; experience with sorbent or membrane modeling and theory

Anticipated start date: January 2012

Location: Morgantown, WV or Pittsburgh, PA

Term of employment: Full time; renewable for up to three years total

Salary information: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; competitive benefits package
